Dynamic Embodiment DE-SMTT

DE-SMTT is offered in 4 Phases in order to provide flexibility so you can meet your work and financial needs. Study intensively in NYC or do parts of the training in your own home area. Receive credit for prior studies. Link your DE-SMTT certification process with undergraduate and graduate – www.SUNY.ESC.edu/MALS, and doctoral www.sbgi.edu, www.IUPS.edu degree programs.

It is important to see if DE-SMTT is the right fit for you. Begin with course work with us or in your home area. Ideally take at least two Phase One courses in NYC. Certification begins with applying to our full program (Phases Two – Four). As part of your application to be a registered Dynamic Embodiment student we will review your transcript of Phase 1 courses. Once you are a registered student you are offered advising for completion of Phase 1 as well as to discuss Phase 2 resources in your home area.

Phase One

Begin by getting a taste of the key underlying approaches to somatic movement that have influenced the development of Dynamic Embodiment-SMTT by enrolling in workshops. The required courses listed above can be taken either in NYC or if available, in your local area. Module 1 of Moving On Center’s Participatory Arts certification plus intro to LMA and BMC® Body Systems or Embodied Anatomy/Physiology is equivalent to Phase One (visit http://www.MovingOnCenter.org). Please click on the Phase One link above for more detailed course listing and requirements

Students may apply to begin Phase 2 once they have enrolled for and begun Phase One or Module 1 courses (Students who completed Participatory Arts Certification between 1995 – 2008 are all eligible).

Phase Two

Phase Two is an independently fulfilled, interim study period with assignments designed by Martha Eddy and supervised by a local advisor. It can include an orientation workshop on the east or west coast or by request at other locations. (Orientations are offered between the July Phase One orientation in NYC and March of the Phase 3 even year). Continual seminars, private sessions and internships are required; they are available in NY, CA, and with faculty around the world. Many students choose to enroll in the Body-Mind Fitness Weekends offered in NYC (www.WellnessCKE.net www.MovementsAfoot.com - find somatic fitness page). The number of required workshop hours is dependent on your transcript of prior studies.

Phase Three

A culminating six-week intensive in the late spring, held biennially on the East Coast (even years - generally beginning in May or June). The intensive is held for 2 weeks at the Earth Dance residential center in Western, MA and followed by 20 days study in NYC (In 2010 we meet for4 long weekends) For more information please download the Course Catalogue

Phase Four

Graduation results from the study and presentation of culminating work – teaching workshops, leading public presentations, or working with clients. Enroll in one or two long weekends of advanced study and supervised practice focusing on specific application skills (e.g., working with children, teaching movement, handling complex client challenges). You are required to demonstrate and confirm this applied Dynamic Embodiment knowledge. Times and locations are determined by the interests of your cohort group. (In 2010 themes include: somatic psychology, conflict resolution with children, somatic fitness, exercise-dance programs with the people who have experienced life-threatening illnesses, fitness for the elderly, and special syndromes in private practice.)

We like to offer Phase 4 classes in new locations by request (e.g., upcoming advanced courses are being planned for Minneapolis, Seattle, Vancouver, and in Europe and Latin America).
